Hitachi, in partnership with the Taiwan IT industry, has developed some advanced new home security devices utilizing biometrics. Hitachi Asia recently displayed a new kind of monitoring system called the Finger Vein Biometric System, which is a security system that identifies a person by the veins of his or her finger tips.
While fingerprints and even retinas can be faked, Hitachi says that finger veins cannot. Only finger veins on a living person will be reconsigned in security checks. Hitachi says that the system is already quite widely used in Japan, where it can be found on ATMs. These systems are also ideal for home security, government and private offices and even schools. Some luxury housing projects in Taiwan, for example, have also adopted the new technology for their building security systems.
